Faux Christmas Ornament

Hello and welcome crafty friends. With the recent snowfall here in Ottawa, today I am sharing a technique that I saw Tina Wardell do. It is called Faux Christmas Ornament.

Faux Christmas Ornament
Faux Ornament Technique
  1. Start with Masking Paper and die cut the largest circle from the circle dies and adhere to a layer of cardstock.
  2. Use a blending brush to add ink around the inner edges of the circle to give the appearance of frost.
  3. Mask a smaller area within the circle to create the moon and use the same ink blending technique. Once done remove the smaller mask - leave the larger mask in place.
  4. Stamp an image (trees - Soft Suede) around the bottom of the circle.
  5. Use a white gel pen to create the snow effect inside the ornament.
  6. Remove the Masking Paper from the Crumb Cake layer.
  7. Place the circle die over the ornament image and trace the inside edge of the circle with a white gel pen.
  8.  Stamp the branches (Christmas Banners) in Evening Evergreen on the top edge of the ornament.
  9. Add the ornament hanger. I die cut this from gold foil paper and a retired die set (Delicate Ornament Thinlits).
  10. Add some glimmer elements (berries) - color with Real Red Stampin' Blends before adhering to ornament image.

  4. Love this card! I saw that you gave the dimensions for your cardstock in an earlier reply, but I'm wondering if you left out the dimensions for the evening evergreen? From the picture, it looks like you have six layers, or am I seeing this incorrectly?

    1. Hi Jackie. So the photo might be deceiving you. The card base is the white layer, followed by the suede and finally the layer with the ornament. What you are seeing behind the card is the surface that I took the picture on, of which I put a frame around when I cleaned up the image. So the card itself is only 3 layers. Sorry for that. The evening evergreen are the branch pieces. I hope this helps clarify. Hugs, Tracie
